Chronic Fatigue

I was referred by my doctor to the Chronic Fatigue Clinic. After some waiting, I was contacted by the team and called in for an initial appointment where they asked me questions to get an idea of my history and to determine whether they could help me. I had been keeping a log of symptoms that I’d been having and I shared this with them. This included dizziness, waves of “equilibrium rebalancing”, tension headaches, stiff neck, brain fog, arm weakness, aches and pains in the body, sore throat and shortness of breath. I was offered a placement in their group CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy). This group was run by two occupational therapists and took place for an hour every fortnight. In total we had 9 sessions and I am due to go back for a review in September. (We were given a 3 month break to use what we’d learnt in our daily life.)

Topics we covered in the sessions include:

  • Sleep strategies
  • Effective rest and relaxation
  • Activity management & diaries
  • Diet
  • Communication (assertion & coping with other)
  • Thoughts and their impact
  • Relapse prevention & managing setbacks

To date I am still trying to implement their recommendations into my daily life but I do not feel as bad as I did last year which is a step in the right direction!

    1. Thank you Soph! Yeah invisible illnesses. I’m just grateful that it’s not as bad as it could be. It does make you stronger mentally in the long run. Actually I haven’t started writing about it yet but I’m taking a more spiritual path now with meditation, self love and changing my mindset. What a journey! Xxxx
